Daniel Jones is bringing it for the Giants so far this year
3rd year QB is turning Into a fantasy football stud
The talk around New York Giants training camp this summer was whether third year quarterback Daniel Jones would be able to keep up with all the enhancements the team made to the roster on the offensive side of the ball.
After two games, the tables have turned on that school of thought.
Can the Giants keep up with Daniel Jones should be the question.
After two games, Jones is a Top 10 fantasy football stud and if you were adroit enough to pick him up in your season-long leagues, you’re likely not going to regret it.
Currently Jones is eighth in scoring on FanDuel and ninth on DraftKings and is slightly behind such fantasy juggernauts such as Kyler Murray, Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry and Christian McCaffrey.
Jones is third in the NFL in rushing yards among quarterbacks (122) behind only Jackson (193) and Jalen Hurts (144). He is second to Hurts (8.47) in yards per attempt (8.13) and is tied with Murray and Jackson with two rushing touchdowns this season.
Jones should actually have three rushing TDs. His 58 yard ramble last Thursday in Washington was negated by a phantom holding penalty that reduced the run to a 46-yard non-scoring play.
On another play, Jones put the football not he money to a wide-open Darius Slayton in the end zone for a 43-yard TD that would have given the Giants the game. Instead, the ball slipped through Slayton’s fingers for a long incompletion.
That is par for course for Jones, who was the NFL’s best deep passer last season. His offensive coordinator, Jason Garrett, has put the training wheels on his deep passing opportunities and when he does throw deep, his receivers don’t meet him halfway.
The opportunities should increase this year for Jones. Veteran WR Sterling Shepard is tied with three others for the NFL lead in receptions with 16. Free agent Kenny Golladay is beginning to heat up. So is tight end Kyle Rudolph. Slayton is better than he’s shown. Evan Engram could return from a calf stain this week and first round draft pick Kadarius Toney is still pretty much in the box,
Once the Giants get all of these players acclimated, the sky is the limit for Jones.
